Kyoto
I'll see you there.
It wouldn't seem to difficult to secure employment with a teaching company (being the traditional ex-pat job) before heading over - places like http://www.ittti.com/pkc/index.html , or https://www.interacnetwork.com/recruit/ (looking better than Nova-gone-bust positions). Of course already being over there is a major advantage on acquiring jobs (if you are on a working holiday visa for example), in the free English paper Kansai Flea Market (they have a poorer version of themselves online (http://www.kfm.to/) - good place to pick up house stuff at sayonara sales, too - it was crawling with English teaching jobs in the Kansai region - Kyoto included. It's easier to get a good teaching job if you're already in the country, of course.
I will go back. I love Japan and ache for it every time I see a picture or hear anything related... Most incredible time in my life. I love the Kansai area, because Kobe, Nara and Kyoto are all so close, and of course I've met such amazing people in Osaka. Never really been to Tokyo, though. Would certainly be open to that possibility. And I want to visit, if not live for a time in, Hokkaido... So much to do.
If you're in Japan I will meet you there. What better place to meet?
